Does steam delete half downloaded files

The files are not there either. I'm not sure where they are on my computer but they're taking up space. So if anyone knows how to find the files or just delete them it would be much appreciated!

This has been a known issue with Steam for sometime. Although, per the Steam Support forums, it seems the most popular method to troubleshoot this:.

For future reference, Steam Support Forums are always a great place to start for Steam related problems! Step 3 Select Backup and restore games While restoring Steam backup file with the custom files, make sure all these files copied to the corresponding folders.

You have to re-install Steam to a location without special characters. Steam does not backup the saved games, custom multiplayer maps or configuration files. To restore a saved game in Steam, you can use Apeaksoft Data Recovery to scan and find back the saved games.

Step 1. Step 2. Create a new folder within it named steamapps. Then, create a folder in steamapps called common. Step 3. Locate the game folder created in Steam backup originally, copy and paste into the new location in step 2. Step 4. Step 5. Once the uninstallation is done, click the Install button find the Choose location dropdown to choose the Steam folder on your new hard drive.

Then Steam will detect the game file and you can play the game in a new drive as usual. Reactions: jolorulz and PUTZ. It could be the case of where on the disk those games are being stored. If you would like to try it will require copying the game to your separate drive, or at least moving the existing data out of the steamapps folder you'll be using, because this is an experimental technique and can destroy existing installation data.

Here is a method I posted in a Reddit comment around a year ago, with a slight edit changing BytesToDownload to 0 :. Move the game install data out of the steamapps folder if you haven't already, such as to your desktop.

Then in Steam right click the game and "Delete Local Content" to make sure there's nothing left of it in that location, and then start the installation and pause it ASAP.

Make sure it has the value of "BytesToDownload" set to something other than 0 though; otherwise it's useless. Open the appmanifest file in a text editor and copy the value from "BytesToDownload" and paste it into the value of "BytesDownloaded" value goes between the double quotation marks, e.
